Cofense
About This Project
Cofense helps global organizations quickly detect and respond to phishing attacks that evade perimeter controls. We worked with them to revamp the user experience for a number of pages on their marketing site.
Roles
User Experience, User Interface
Challenge
CBFree is Cofense's free computer based training that helps users identify and prevent phishing attempts. We were asked to help improve the user experience in order to simplify the download process.
The following are screenshots of the old process. The landing page was loaded with information, pushing the “Download” CTA’s past the fold and getting lost in a sea of text. The goal of this page is to get the user to the register and download pages.
User registration featured form fields that were too long and similar in length across the forms. Form fields should match the user’s expectation. For example, “Company Size” is a maximum of 2-5 characters, which requires a shorter field. A field that is too long can confuse the user into thinking additional information is needed.
The download page is misleading in that the user believes that this is the page where they download their choice of training module. It is actually only the selection page and they must select each module individually to go to the download page. If they want to download another, they must register again and select another module.
User Experience
After we conducted an audit of the landing page, we determined that we could combine sections and reduce the module sections to icons and titles, while presenting secondary information in a hover state. This reduced the page length quite a bit and cleaned it up, giving the user clear direction to the CTAs for registration and download.
The registration page has been improved by editing the form fields to lengths that are fitting to the information. With shortened fields, we can add a sidebar for additional information and link to the contact page for help. We also included the ability to download the other modules in an effort to put more Cofense resources in the hands of the user.
User Interface
We used Cofense’s existing site graphics to translate wireframes into full color mockups. We also improved typographic hierarchy and content layout for easy to digest information for a more purposeful page design.
Additional Screens
We had a continuous working relationship with Cofense that allowed us to rework a number of pages on their marketing site. Our goal for each page was to improve the user experience by making simpler workflows and providing clear direction to the information that the user needed.
